Yorkshire Iranian Patriots
Solidarity from Yorkshire

Write to your councillors

Town halls have a voice too. We are asking councillors across Yorkshire to sign a personal pledge of solidarity with the Iranian people, and to table a motion at full council welcoming the proscription of the IRGC — achieved on 13 July 2026 — and committing to protect residents from regime networks.

This tool covers Yorkshire and surrounding areas. For every council in Yorkshire (South, West, North, East Riding, City of York and Hull) we pre-fill the email with every councillor in your ward.

For South and West Yorkshire postcodes we pre-fill every ward councillor's email, and CC your Combined Authority Mayor by default — you can untick that box if you prefer. Elsewhere we open the email blank and point you at your council's "find your councillor" page. A blind copy goes to our campaign tracker so we can count letters sent.

What you are asking for

  1. A personal pledge from the councillor to stand publicly with the Iranian people's struggle for a free Iran.
  2. A motion at full council recognising the human rights abuses of the Islamic Republic, welcoming the proscription of the IRGC, and committing the council to protect residents from regime networks.
  3. Symbolic acts of solidarity, such as lighting public buildings, flying the Lion and Sun flag, or holding a moment of silence on key anniversaries.

Pointers for a council motion

A motion does not need to be long. We are not asking anyone to attach a pre-written document — these are simply the points a good motion would cover. Your councillor can use their own words.

Pre-written letter to your councillor

Dear Councillor [Name],

I am a resident in [council area] writing to ask you to take two simple steps in solidarity with the people of Iran.

The Islamic Republic continues to execute protesters and imprison women for not covering their hair. Since 30 December 2025, a state-led massacre has killed thousands more — verified counts now exceed 7,000, credible reporting places the figure above 30,000. On 13 July 2026 the Government proscribed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation — a decision we warmly welcome. Councils now have a real role in seeing that proscription means something locally, and in protecting their own residents from regime networks operating here.

The Iran we carry — the Iran of the historic Lion and Sun flag — is the country the Islamic Republic tried to erase. The non-sectarian figure most Iranians look to for a peaceful transition is His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, who seeks no office and asks the Iranian people themselves to choose their future government in a free referendum.

I am asking you to:

  1. Sign a personal pledge of solidarity with the Iranian people's struggle for a free Iran.

  2. Table — or co-sign — a short motion at full council recognising the regime's abuses, welcoming the proscription of the IRGC, and committing the council to protect residents from regime networks. A short motion in your own words is more than enough; suggested pointers are on this website.

  3. Where appropriate, support symbolic acts in [council area]: flying the Lion and Sun flag, lighting public buildings, or holding a moment of remembrance on the anniversary of Mahsa (Jina) Amini's death.

Please reply and tell me whether you will sign the pledge and table — or co-sign — the motion.

Many of us — Iranians and British neighbours — gather every Sunday from 12pm to 2pm outside Sheffield City Hall. You would be very welcome to join us.

Yours sincerely,
